On 8 – 10 April, 2019 State Secretary Miloslav Stašek visited Brazil, where he launched an economic diplomacy project to support Czech companies specialized in defence and security technology. Miloslav Stašek held consultations with Secretary General of Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Otávio Brandelli, met with Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications Mr. Paul Alvim and with high representatives of the Brazilian army and Ministry of Defence. The main topic of the discussion was an intensification of bilateral security and economic cooperation between the Czech Republic and Brazil and the support of mutual projects in the field of science, research and innovation.

State Secretary Miloslav Stašek, together with vice-chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs and member of the Chamber of Deputies Pavel Juříček, opened an event in support of economic diplomacy. During this event representatives of 13 Czech companies presented to their Brazilian partners sophisticated solutions focusing on defence and security technology, crisis management and CBRN and in addition innovative products and IT services with the potential for use in armed forces. “I am glad that many Czech companies are looking not only for business partners, but are searching also for market investment opportunities in the sector of defence and security industry and related technologies”, said  State Secretary Stašek to his Brazilian partners. Many Czech business representatives participated in the series of meetings held on 9 - 10 April, 2019 with high representatives of Brazilian armed forces. State Secretary Stašek further met with representatives of Brazilian army and Ministry of Defence, General F. Lancia and Deputy Minister of Defence Dr. Marcos Degaut.

Meeting with Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Federative Republic of Brazil, Mr. Otávio Brandelli was held on 9 April, 2019 and focused on bilateral relations of both countries, cooperation opportunities in the field of defence and security, business, science and research and on current international issues such as Brexit, the situation in Venezuela, relations with the United States of America and Israel in relation to the recent visit of Brazilian president J. Bolsonaro and cooperation of V4 countries and Brazil. With the aim to intensify and strengthen mutual relations the bilateral official visits of high representatives of both countries were discussed and both partners agreed on a so called “road map” of mutual relations.

On 10 April, 2019 State Secretary Miloslav Stašek, together with vice-chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs and member of the Chamber of Deputies Pavel Juříček, held consultations with Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications Mr. Paul Alvim. The main topic of discussion was a bilateral agreement on mutual cooperation in science, technology, innovation and communication currently being prepared. Crucial part of the meeting was a Brazilian programme to support innovation for foreign manufacturers of car parts and the continuing current cooperation between both countries in the fields of science, research and innovation in relation to the visit of Czech research delegation, which was held in February 2019. “It is in the interest of both countries to deepen the potential of business and economic cooperation, especially in science, research and innovation as well as in technology and commodities with high added value”, stressed State Secretary during the talks with the Brazilian partners. As well as the defense and security sectors, business opportunities in Brazil in the areas of mining, energy, agro-food and water management including environmental technologies, should not be left outside the interests of Czech business entities.
