Deputy Minister Chmelař at the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom in Washington

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleš Chmelař participated in the second Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom held in Washington 16 – 18 July 2019. The Ministerial aimed at drawing the attention of the international community to the advancement of religious freedom and contributing to the prevention of violence in the name of religion. Representatives of 106 Governments and International Organizations, religious leaders and civil society took part in the Ministerial.

Deputy Minister Chmelař pointed to the growing intolerance in our societies and violations of religious freedom, including in the online world. Czech foreign human rights policy, based on the principles of equality and non-discrimination, promotes freedom of religion or belief and protection of individual members of religious minorities. The Czech Republic raises religious freedom issues in its statements in multilateral human rights fora and supports concrete projects; it also supports intercultural and inter-faith dialogue through organizing conferences and regular dialogue with countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
