Deputy Minister Grmelová Opened the Seminar on the 100th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations with Spain

 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Grmelová visited Madrid on 3 – 4 December 2019. Together with Ángeles Moreno Bau, Deputy State Secretary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, she discussed current issues of Czech-Spanish bilateral relations and opened a seminar on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Spain. On the margins of the COP25 Climate Change Conference, she held discussions with Cristina Gallach Figueras, Spanish High Commissioner for the 2030 Agenda, with special focus on the promotion of the sustainable development goals.

The aim of the visit of the Deputy Anita Grmelová to Madrid was the further strengthening of bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and Spain. Among the main topics of the discussions with the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain Ángeles Moreno Bau were also the equal representation of men and women in diplomacy, the 2030 Agenda and the prospects of closer cooperation between the Diplomatic School of Spain and the Diplomatic Academy of the MFA of the Czech Republic. The continuation of this inter-ministerial cooperation is of great importance, particularly with the view to the future presidencies of Spain and the Czech Republic in the EU.

At the Diplomatic School of Spain, Deputy Minister Grmelová opened a special seminar on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Czech Republic/Czechoslovakia and Spain. Among the distinguished guests who gave presentations during the seminar were the former State Secretary for Foreign Policy and European Affairs of Spain Ramón de Miguel, the former Spanish Ambassador to the Czech Republic Pedro Calvo-Sotelo, the Ambassador and Director of the Diplomatic Academy of MFA CZ Milan Jakobec, the historian Maroš Timko, and the Spanish diplomat Miguel Alonso Berrio.

On the margins of the COP25 Climate Change Conference in Madrid, Anita Grmelova met with Cristina Gallach Figueras, the Spanish High Commissioner for 2030 Agenda. The main subject of the talks was the sharing of experience in promoting the sustainable development goals, not only with the participation of public authorities, but also with the prominent role of private sector, educational institutions and civil society organizations.
