State Secretary M. Stašek received the Ambassador of Peru

 

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Miloslav Stašek received the Ambassador of Peru, Liliana de Olarte, on September 3, 2020. Strengthening bilateral cooperation and possibilities to support Peru in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic were the main topics of the meeting. Peru is one of the countries with the highest numbers of infections and high mortality. The Peruvian side appreciates the way how the pandemic is managed in the Czech Republic. Peru is interested in sharing experience and material and technical assistance.

In July of this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic provided Peru with humanitarian aid in the amount of CZK 3.5 million to address the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Lima. The aid is implemented by the city foundation Fundación Lima. Humanitarian aid of the Czech Republic is used to purchase protective equipment and medical aids, rapid tests and food packages for the socially disadvantaged population of Lima at risk of coronavirus disease and poverty. Humanitarian aid is intended to improve their living and sanitary situation.

Long-term relations between the Czech Republic and Peru are excellent, Peru is a close and stable partner of the Czech Republic in Latin America. Within the Latin American region, Peru is traditionally one of the major recipients of the Czech Republic's foreign development cooperation, which is provided in the form of small local projects. Every year, the development activities of local non-profit organizations and associations are financed from funds of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
