On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jakub Kulhánek (CSSD) received in the Czernin Palace the non-resident Qatari Ambassador Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Thani. They exchanged views on current developments in Afghanistan and spoke of the extraordinary negotiating efforts of Qatar, which is currently organizing negotiations between the international community and the new Afghan rulers.
Both partners also discussed the dynamic development of Czech-Qatari relations. They agreed that a crucial step in supporting Czech exporters and attracting the attention of Qatari investors would be the opening of the Czech and Qatari resident embassies in Doha and Prague, for which there is currently a strong will on both sides.
In the second half of 2022, the football World Cup will take place in Qatar, precisely during the exposed period of the local presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the EU.
