Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Dvořák held talks with the Kuwaiti Ambassador

 

On June 30, 2022, Deputy Minister Martin Dvořák received the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait Rashed Faleh Al Hajri. Thy discussed bilateral relations and cooperation with Kuwait and the entire Gulf region during the upcoming CZ PRES. The Ambassador informed about Kuwaiti's positions on Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The Deputy Minister and the Ambassador discussed activities related to the development of the bilateral agenda, both recently implemented and planned, among other things with regard to the approaching 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (2023). They agreed that there has been a positive shift in the relationship - the Kuwaiti fund KIA participated in an investment forum in Prague, a Kuwaiti trade delegation visited Czechia, political consultations between Deputy Foreign Ministers took place, further visits are being prepared. In the area of ​​trade and investment, Kuwait is interested especially in cooperation in the sectors of defense industry and healthcare.

Deputy Minister Dvořák informed the Ambassador about the priorities of the forthcoming Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU (CZ PRES). Strategic cooperation is to be developed with Kuwait and other Gulf countries, and given the current situation on the oil and gas markets, cooperation in ensuring Europe's energy security will undoubtedly be an important part of the enhanced cooperation.

The Ambassador expressed interest in the Czech evaluation of the development of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. “We perceive the current situation as a war of wear and tear, where both parties strive to build the most advantageous position before any negotiations can begin. The Czech Republic believes that Ukraine's position will be as strong as possible, "said Deputy Minister Dvorak. The Ambassador then reported on Kuwaiti's positions on Russian aggression, which are related to the historical experience with the Iraqi invasion and the principled insistence on compliance with the UN Charter. Kuwait materially and financially supports the activities of international humanitarian organizations related to the crisis in Ukraine.
