Minister Lipavský informed the NATO Secretary General that the current position of the Czech Republic in the Alliance is firm and consistent. "I assured Mr Stoltenberg of our country's readiness to meet its commitments, including the allocation of 2% of GDP for defence spending by 2025," said Lipavský. He also stressed the importance of the Alliance's unified position in the context of the increasing threat of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He reinstated that Czechia was ready to help Ukraine, for example by donating ammunition or by increasing the Czech contribution to the Alliance's defence on east wing. "We have agreed on the unacceptability of the Russian security proposals," Minister Lipavsky said. "Ukraine has the right to choose its own direction."

Finally, Minister Lipavský supported the adoption of the ambitious Strategic Concept at the NATO summit in Madrid in June. The Czech priority is to strengthen the political dimension of the Alliance in particular, including the global reach.

As part of his trip, the Czech Foreign Minister also met with EU Crisis Commissioner Janez Lenarčič. Lipavský presented the priorities for the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, emphasising humanitarian principles.
