Minister Lipavský welcomed the Minister of State for Foreign Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates

 

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský welcomed the Minister of State for Foreign Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Ms Reem Ebrahim al-Hashimi. The Czech diplomacy chief and Emirate state minister discussed how they could further deepen the bilateral economical and political cooperation, including a visit of the most important leaders. The Minister informed about his guest about the foreign policy priorities for the Czech Presidency in the Ministry of the European Union, in which a top priority will be the development of strategic cooperation between the EU and Gulf countries. During the visit they also signed a memorandum of understanding between the foreign ministers on their interests in creating political consultations.

Minister Lipavský presented the Czech position towards Russian aggression in Ukraine and highlighted the importance of diplomatical negociations in securing a unified approach from the international community. While discussing the effects of Russian aggression in Ukraine on energy and gloabl food security, the Emirate minister shared that the United Arab Emirates always promoted compliance with the UN Charter and maintaining the principle of stable territorial integrity, thus supporting the unified approach of the international community.

Deputy Minister Martin Tlapa negociated with the Emirate state minister mainly on bilateral cooperation. Both sides have interests in the development of specific activities outlined in the jointly agreed plan (road map). They also talked about the Vienna negociations on the fate of nuclear energy in the Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA). According the the Emirate partner, this topic is closely tied to the UAE’s concern about its own security and prioritizing cooperation in the defense industry. The UEA state minister truely appreciated the presentation on the recently concluded world exhebition EXPO in Dubai, where the emphasis on green and sustanable technology interested her.

The UEA is the third largest economy in the Middle East and North Africa region. It is the the current most diversified economy among the Gulf countries. The UAE is the 3rd largest economy in the Middle East and North Africa region. The country also has the most diversified economy among the Gulf countries. The realization of the world exhibition EXPO Dubai was a great impetus for economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. The current economic growth is based on a large-scale digitization, introduction of 5G services, growth of e-commerce and general development of modern technologies promoted by the government. After Israel, the United Arab Emirates is the most important trading partner for the Czech Republic in the Middle East. The sectors of transport (car industry, railway, related infrastructure), ICT, electrical engineering and the defense industry will bring interesting opportunities for further promotion of Czech companies on the UAE´s market.
