Minister Lipavský discussed further support for Ukraine with his counterparts from NATO member states

The NATO ministerial meeting in Bucharest, which took place on November 29-30, 2022, reaffirmed the unity of the Alliance and the determination of the Allies to support Ukraine. Minister Lipavský confirmed that NATO is ready to continue supporting Ukraine, including the supply of materials as part of the Alliance's Comprehensive Aid Package project.

Minister Lipavský also welcomed the opportunity to participate in the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the G7 countries. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba also attended the informal dinner.

During the session, Minister Lipavský condemned Russian aggression and crimes that Russia is committing against Ukraine and its people. “Putin is trying to use the winter as a weapon against the Ukrainian civilians and divide us all. We will not ease up in our support for Ukraine, and we will support Ukraine for however long it takes the Ukrainian army to win. We will never recognize the illegal annexation on the side of Russia that grossly breaks the UN Charter. We will continue in political and practical support of Ukraine and further intensify it because Ukraine is protecting even our security,” said Minister Lipavský.

The foreign ministers of Finland and Sweden (countries already invited to join NATO) also participated in all of the ministerial meetings. The entry of these countries into NATO will increase not only their security, but also the security of the Euro-Atlantic area. Finland and Sweden’s involvement in NATO is of direct importance to the Alliance, including involvement during the accession process. “NATO firmly stands behind its commitments to maintain the Alliance’s open door policy. The entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO will strengthen the security of all of Europe,” shared the head of Czech diplomacy.

The head of Czech diplomacy further confirmed that Czechia supports Ukraine's membership into NATO as soon as suitable conditions arise. At the same time, he highlighted the importance of cooperation between NATO and the EU, whose unity is the key to successfully handling the challenges of Euro-Atlantic security. The meeting of countries in the G7+ format was an important moment of the program. The help of these most economically advanced countries in the world is crucial for Ukraine.

Minister Lipavský also attended a commemoration event for the 20th year since the NATO Summit in Prague, in which Romania together with six other member states were invited to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In connection, he praised the efforts of Václav Havel who regarded Czechia’s entry into NATO as crucial.

On Wednesday, November 30th, the ministers mainly discussed further support for Ukraine, ways to strengthen NATO's resilience, and the challenges posed by China to international security. Ministers also met with counterparts from Georgia, Moldova, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to express the Alliance's strong support for these partners. They also discussed the security situation in the Western Balkans and the Black Sea. On the margins of the conference, Minister Lipavský met with Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Auresc, Lithuanian Head of Diplomacy Gabrielius Landsbergis, and Latvian counterpart Edgars Rinkēvičs.
