Signing of the Extradition Treaty between the Czech Republic and Australia

On 17 February 2022, the extradition treaty between the Czech Republic and Australia was signed in Canberra, Australia.

The signing of the treaty took place at Parliament House in Canberra. Just before the signing ceremony began, the signatories' powers of attorney were exchanged and checked. The treaty was signed by Ambassador Ing. Tomáš Dub on behalf of the Czech Republic, and by the Minister of Justice, Senator Michaelia Cash, on behalf of Australia.

After its ratification the treaty will create legal conditions for mutual extradition of peoples and will enable a better and more efficient way of conducting criminal prosecutions. This will be conducted by authorities of each of the Contracting States, as well as the subsequent implementation of criminal decisions. The rules of the Treaty will be applied by courts, the public prosecutor's office, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the police authorities of the Czech Republic will also participate in the implementation of extradition requests.
