The Czech Republic Supported the Suspension of Russia's Membership Rights in the Council of Europe

The Committee of Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe decided in Strasbourg on February 25, 2022, that the Russian Federation will be, in accordance with Article 8 of the Statute of this international organization, suspended from its rights of representation in its organs
This decision - supported by the Czech Republic - was made since the Russian Federation seriously violated its obligations arising from Article 3 of the Statute of the Council of Europe, in particular the compliance with rule of law. The next expected step in the current situation will be the expulsion of the Russian Federation from the Council of Europe, unless it withdraws earlier.
