Water and Sustainability is in the center of Czech presentation at EXPO 2020

The core of Czech participation at EXPO 2020 in Dubai is water and everything related to it. However, Czech pavilion also provides strong visibility to sustainable technologies in general. The most visible item is S.A.W.E.R. technology accompanied by presentations of number of other sustainable solutions, ranging from water-saving toilets to hydroponic farming.

Several items presented at Czech Pavilion at EXPO Dubai have something to do with water. The one that attracts the most attention is without any doubts the S.A.W.E.R. technology developed by Czech Technical University in Prague in cooperation with Czech Academy of Science. The S.A.W.E.R. autonomously generates hundreds of liters of potable water daily out of dry desert air that is, through subsequent use of re-mineralization and innovative irrigation technologies, used to cultivate the garden around the Czech Pavilion.

The topic of water is prominent through the rest of the Pavilion as well, the drops of water make their way from the ceiling through the metal statue “Hearth of Spring” all the way down to the lobby, that is dominated by another water-inspired item, lightning installation “Golden Rain” by Lasvit company. The production of water from air by S.A.W.E.R. is accompanied by several presentations from the field of microbiology and botanics, such as phenotyping system “We Speak Plantish” or photobioreactor “Alga Oasis” by Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

At the beginning of December, a two-week long exhibition “Water Inspiration” has been launched at the Czech Pavilion as well. The exhibit presents further water related Czech technologies, such as water-saving toilet OptimumFlush by SIKO, that is also installed at the public restroom of the Czech Pavilion, or pipeline cameras TechWorm by Zikmund Electronics. Part of the exhibit are also design pieces of water cans made from reused plastics and plant pots containing unwoven textile and titan, both designed by students and professors of Tomáš Baťa University Zlín.

In the main venue of the Sustainability Zone of EXPO, the Terra Pavilion, a conference presenting Czech technologies in the areas of sustainable energy, mobility, botanics or agriculture took place on December 1. Apart from aforementioned S.A.W.E.R. technology, attendees of the conference were presented with modular reactor cooled by molten salt by ÚJV Řež, the new Škoda iV or hydroponic cultivation solution by GreeenTech.

“The topic of sustainability is omnipresent at the Dubai EXPO and Czech solutions presented at our Pavilion is among those most visible ones,” says Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Tlapa. “The entire World focuses on and looks for solutions for water management and environment, be it in the areas of water treatment, energy or sustainable agriculture. At EXPO, we present Czech companies and academic institutions that developed such solutions and we create opportunities for further business possibilities in the Middle East region,” concludes Deputy Minister Tlapa.
