Statement of the MFA on the Ending of Military Presence of Israel in the Gaza Strip

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the CR welcomes with satisfaction the report on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.(13/9/2005)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the CR welcomes with satisfaction the report on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.

The MFA appreciates the smooth course of withdrawal of Israeli troops, to which Palestinian security forces also significantly contributed. The majority of Israeli and Palestinian people showed an admirable self-control in critical moments. That will be one of the conditions in the future for a further progress in the peace process which will contribute to the conciliation of both nations, and therefore has to continue.

The MFA of the CR sees a crucial step on the way of implementation of the Road Map in the definitive ending of Israeli presence in the Gaza Strip. We call on both sides for a continuation of the current close cooperation with "Quartet" representative James Wolfenson. We appeal to the Palestinian leadership and President Mahmoud Abbas to do everything that is in their power, to ensure security and the rule of law on the territories evacuated by Israel.

The MFA of the CR believes that this historical moment will be an impulse for a continuation of the peace process, leading to the establishment of a viable Palestinian state which will be living side by side in peace with Israel.
