Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the terrorist attack in Burgas

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic learned with deep sorrow about the news of the terrorist attack against the bus of Israeli tourists at the Burgas airport, at which eight people were killed and scores of others injured, including children.

This event reminded us strongly of the fact that despite recent relative quiet the world is still being endangered by terrorism which adopts many forms and hides behind various ideologies.

Czech Republic condemns this terrorist act and believes that the perpetrators of it will be found soon and brought to justice. Czech Republic will be always fully involved in combating terrorism.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg in response to the terrorist attack said:

„I am deeply shocked by the fact that a terrorist attack took place on European soil. It is still more tragic that it happened in Bulgaria which as we know managed to protect its Jewish citizens in the course of the Second World War. I would like to express my most sincere condolences to both Israel and Bulgaria where the attack took place.”
