MFA Statement on Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic closely follows developments in the EU-Ukraine relations and takes note of the regrettable decision of the Government of Ukraine to suspend the negotiations on association with the EU.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlines the continuing interest of the Czech Republic in deepening relations and cooperation between the EU and Ukraine - a process which entails the signing of the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement scheduled for the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on November 28-29, 2013.

In case the Association Agreement is not signed at the summit, this would represent an unfortunate setback despite all the substantial progress Ukraine has achieved in many areas on its path to a closer association with the EU. The Association Agreement and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement are ambitious documents which would offer Ukraine a considerable help with reforms and modernization of the country.
