Statement of the Czech MFA on Referendum in Crimea

The holding of the referendum in Crimea, its course, as well as the results, are the manifestation of Russian attempts to question security arrangements in the region that were made after the break-up of the Soviet Union.

The referendum has been declared in violation of the Ukrainian constitution and was held under the irregular circumstances. Therefore, the Czech Republic does not recognize the results of the vote. With regret, we have also taken notice of the steps by the Russian Federation that contribute to the increase of tension not only in Crimea, but also in the eastern and southern Ukraine.

The Czech Republic expresses its support to the Government and the people of Ukraine in their efforts to maintain the territorial integrity of their country and emphasizes that it continues to recognize Crimea as Ukrainian territory.
