Statement of the MFA on the Presidential Election in Ukraine

The Czech Republic welcomes the results of the presidential elections in Ukraine. The Czech Republic is ready to support the new president in delivering the necessary reforms.

The Czech Republic identifies with the OSCE monitoring mission’s preliminary report and welcomes the high voter turnout of voters. In the Sunday elections, Ukrainians had an opportunity to freely express their will and elect the new president of their country. As announced by the OSCE mission, we appreciate the determination of the Ukrainian authorities to deliver an orderly election, mostly meeting the country’s international obligations and respecting basic freedoms despite a difficult security situation in the country’s two eastern regions, an attempt to sabotage the election process, violent provocations and the lasting Russian occupation Crimea.

The Czech Republic believes the new president will soon succeed in establishing order and security in the country and will deliver the much needed political and economic reforms, including stronger self-administration and civil society. We have always supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity and democratic transformation, both in bilateral and EU projects.
