Statement of the MFA on the results of the referendum on Scottish independence

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic respects the results of the referendum on the independence of Scotland, in which the voters chose to preserve the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in its present form.

The referendum is a proof of Britain’s advanced democracy. Despite major differences in opinion regarding the future direction of Scotland, both the supporters and opponents of Scottish independence conducted their campaigns with dignity and mutual respect.

We are convinced that the unity of the United Kingdom will help it maintain its prominent position at the European as well as international scene, especially today when Europe is facing major security and political challenges.
