Statement of the MFA on the Violence in Southeastern Ukraine

The Czech Republic is deeply concerned by the renewal of fighting in southeastern Ukraine and its tragic consequences for the population of the areas affected by the conflict. We were shocked by the growing number of civilian casualties in particular. Shelling of residential neighborhoods, which we are witnessing these days, whether in Mariupol or Donetsk, can not be tolerated.

It is imperative to stop the senseless bloodshed and to return to the negotiating table. The conflict in Ukraine has no military solution. Czech Republic considers the ongoing attacks of the separatist forces as a gross violation of the peace agreement and together with the EU calls on Russia to use its influence over the separatists, to end their financial, political and military assistance and to support the implementation of agreements from Minsk in order to achieve a diplomatic solution of the crisis.
