Statement of the MFA on Bomb Attacks in Yemen

The Czech Republic strongly condemns apalling bomb attacks perpetrated at two mosques in the capital Sana’a and a mosque in Sa’ada, killing more than 150 people and seriously injuring many others. The Czech Republic offers its condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The bombings, as well as the continued violence  in Aden and the recent seizing of Yemens´s third largest city Taiz further undermine Yemen’s transition process.

The Czech Republic expresses its support for President Hadi and urges all sides involved in the conflict to refrain from the further use of military force and violence, and supports  Yemen in its fight against terrorism.

The Czech Republic believes that an inclusive political process is the best way to achieve long-term stability. Therefore, we support the efforts of Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on Yemen Jamal Benomar to find a political solution in order to  avoid civil war, economic collapse and a humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen.
