Statement of Sir Nicholas Winton’s family

Nicholas Winton was a lifelong friend of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. He was very fond of the country and held it in high respect. He developed close relationships with his „children“ who had been born there and found a number of new friends after he returned to the Czech Republic in the 1990s. He deeply appreciated the high honours accorded to him by the heads of state and the government of the Czech Republic even though all the accolades somewhat did not sit comfortably with his natural sense of modesty. There was a special place in his heart for the Czech people and their wonderful country.
