Statement of the MFA on the Agreement on Syrian Ceasefire

The Czech Republic welcomes the agreement on Syrian ceasefire, which should come into force on February 27, 2016. The Czech Republic appeals to all sides of the conflict to uphold it unconditionally. In accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 (2015), the Czech Republic will continue its appeal to the Syrian government to allow the humanitarian aid for the civilian population in the areas under siege as well as Syria as a whole.
The Czech Republic intends to further increase its support and aid to Syria, including through the activities of its embassy in Damascus. Our priority is to improve living conditions in Syria, particularly of the internally displaced population, thus helping to cut the influx of refugees to Europe.
