Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement between the European Union and its Member States and Canada signed

The Czech Republic welcomes that, after long-lasting efforts both on the EU and the Canada side, balanced and at the same time ambitious Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement was signed between the EU and its Member States and Canada (CETA).

The Agreement embodies Czech priorities as defined at the beginning of the talks started at the Prague 2009 Summit.

So far, CETA is the most ambitious free trade agreement concluded by the European Union and a third country. It is a modern agreement covering not only commodity tariff liftings but also services, protection of intellectual property, public contracts, regulatory cooperation and investment support and protection.

The agreement should be preliminarily applied as of 2017. Apart from advantages and new business opportunities it is important to highlight that the agreement will help to strengthen and deepen the EU/CA relation.
