MFA Statement on the DPRK’s Ballistic Missile Launch on September 15, 2017

On September 15, 2017, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired already its second missile over the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The Czech Republic expresses its full support to Japan and the people of Japan in the face of this serious threat.

The repeated tests of ballistic missiles by the DPRK constitute outright violations of the DPRK's international obligations, as set out in several UN Security Council Resolutions, and represent a serious threat not only to the health and lives of civilian population but also to international peace and security.

The Czech Republic once again urges the DPRK to comply without delay, fully and unconditionally, with its obligations under all relevant UN Security Council resolutions and refrain from any further provocative action that could increase regional and global tensions.

The Czech Republic urges the DPRK to re-engage in a meaningful and constructive dialogue with the international community in order to defuse tension and to enable further steps aimed at the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula and full implementation of all relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
