Minister Stropnický Visited the Prague Headquarters of Radio Free Europe

Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Stropnický visited the Prague Headquarters of Radio Free Europe on May 14, 2018. He met with the President of the RFE/RL Thomas Kent and spoke also with the group of six young promising journalists currently working at the RFE/RL within the Fellowship Programs supported by the Czech MFA.

During his meeting with President Kent, Minister Stropnický appreciated the important tireless work of the RFE/RL and stressed the irreplaceable role of independent media in the protection of democracy and human rights. He recalled also the longstanding commitment of the Czech Republic towards independent media, freedom of expression and access to information.

Minister Stropnický appreciated the close cooperation with Radio Free Europe, especially through the successful Fellowship Programs Václav Havel Journalism Fellowship and Jiří Dienstbier Journalism Fellowship, joint initiatives of the MFA and RFE/RL with the aim to support young journalists from the countries of the Eastern Partnership and Russia and from the countries of the Western Balkans.

Minister Stropnický also expressed his condolences for their loss to the journalist from the Afghan Service of the RFE/RL, as two of their colleagues and one fellow were killed in Kabul in a suicide attack on April 30.
