Statement of the MFA of the Czech Republic on the Inter-Korean Summit Meeting in Pyongyang

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic welcomes the results of the inter-Korean Summit that took place in Pyongyang from September 18 to 20, 2018.

We consider the outcome of the summit to be an important milestone in our efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement on the Korean peninsula. We appreciate the commitment of both countries to end hostilities and to remove all real risks of war on the Korean Peninsula. The declared pledge to engage in close cooperation in the process of pursuing the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is a promise of further progress in this area.

The commitment of the DPRK to permanently dismantle its missile engine test facility and missile launch tower in Dongchang-ri in presence of experts is considered to be important, however, only first step towards complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization.

Progress in denuclearization is a prerequisite for ensuring lasting stability in the region and improving the lives of all people on the Korean peninsula. We believe that the pledge to abandon nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula will soon take form of concrete verifiable steps.

The Czech Republic supports the continuation of dialogue among all parties, which is the only way how to achieve lasting peace, stability and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.
