Statement by the MFA of the Czech Republic on the INF Treaty

The Czech Republic shares with the US and other Allies their conclusion that Russia has violated the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF-T) through its system 9M729 which, together with the other non-constructive Russian steps, threatens the Euro-Atlantic security. Russia is thus solely responsible for the situation which has led the US to taking steps towards its withdrawal from the INF-T.
Although the Czech Republic itself is not a party to the INF-T, it undertands the steps taken by the US as it is not tenable anymore that INF-T is observed only by the US. The Czech Republic considers the INF-T important for Euro-Atlantic security as it has eliminated a dangerous and destabilising category of carriers of nuclear and conventional weapons. Russia still has an opportunity to return to compliance with the INF-T to which it is called upon by us together with our Allies.
We will continue to consult in the Alliance on the INF-T, including on our response to the Russian course of action, in the interest of effectiveness of the security and defence of our own and our Allies.
