Czech Republic Appreciates the Work of Human Rights Defenders

On 10 December, to mark the occasion of Human Rights Day, Acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Konecký met with foreign human rights defenders living in the Czech Republic in order to personally thank them and express moral support and appreciation for their important and difficult work.

The discussion centred around the situation in the respective home countries of the guests. Acting Deputy Minister Konecký also confirmed that the protection of human rights remains one of the key pillars of the Czech foreign policy.

The meeting was a reminder of the legendary breakfast organized by then French President Francois Mitterrand with Czechoslovak dissidents in Prague in 1988.

Many Czech Embassies all around the world are organizing similar symbolic gatherings or other human rights events in these days. Their aim is to pay respect to local civil society and human rights defenders and to show our interest and support for their endeavors.
