The Czech Republic will help Greece with the consequences of the devastating fire in the migration facility of Moria on the island of Lesbos

On Friday, the 11th of September 2020, Minister Tomáš Petříček decided to release EUR 100 000 from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as urgent assistance to Greece to deal with the consequences of the devastating fire in the migration facility of Moria on the island of Lesbos which had broken out two days earlier and had almost completely destroyed the facility.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens is currently discussing with Greek partners the most efficient way of using this assistance. Minister Petříček expressed readiness to help in his recent phone conversation with Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, who will be on a working visit to the Czech Republic on Friday, the 18th of September.

This year the Czech Republic has already provided assistance related to the Covid-19 pandemic in the amount of CZK 4.4 million disbursed by the Ministry of the Interior through MEDEVAC to cover the needs of refugees and migrants in the refugee facilities.
