Minister Petříček bids farewell to recalled Ambassador of Myanmar

On 9 February, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček received the Ambassador of Myanmar, H. E. Mrs. Kay Thi Soe. Shortly after the military coup in Myanmar, she was recalled from her post in Prague back to the capital.

Tomáš Petříček expressed Czech Republic´s gratitude for Ambassador´s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between our countries. Madam Kay Thi Soe was the first Ambassador of Myanmar in the Czech Republic after long time, and we highly appreciate her activities. Minister Petříček informed the Ambassador that the Czech Republic strongly condemns military coup in Myanmar. We support the country's legitimate leadership with the mandate from the November 2020 general elections. The Czech Republic will use all available diplomatic instruments in order to restore democracy in Myanmar and will coordinate its effort with partners in the European Union and global democratic community.

The Czech Republic considers Myanmar an important partner and has always supported transition to democracy and efforts to promote lasting peace, freedom, human rights and prosperity for all the people of Myanmar.
