Contract signed: Czechia finances wells construction in Nangarhar Province

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Afghanistan, Jiri Baloun, received the Director of the AHOWC, Afghan NGO, Samiullah, at the Embassy on 17 March 2021.

In the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Baloun and Director Samiullah discussed the activities of the NGO's non-profit organization Active Help Organization for Women and Children (AHOWC) and the project to build fourteen wells in the eastern Nangarhar Province. The project received this year's financial support within the program of small local projects of the Development Assistance of the Czech Republic. Representatives also touched on the successful cooperation last year, when AHOWC, thanks to Czech support, built the hydroelectric power plant in the Kunar Province.

Director Samiullah acquainted Ambassador Baloun with the details of the project implementation plan and thanked him for the financial support of the Czech Republic, which will ensure safe sources of drinking water and thus meet WASH requirements (water, sanitation, hygiene) of the most needy 500 households in Nangarhar Province. Ambassador Baloun praised the highly professional approach of the AHOWC to the implementation of projects, and underlined the humanitarian importance of helping those in need. The people of the Nangarhar Province have been facing a precarious security situation for a long time, so that access to drinking water, which is all the more important in the context of the persisting drought problem, will improve their daily lives.
