Help against the COVID-19 pandemic has arrived: Afghans received Czech decontamination units

As part of the tied financial donations of the Czech Development Cooperation, the efficient decontamination units were handed over on 27 August 2020 at the Kabul HKIA Air Base to the Afghan MoPH representatives for use against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The units were made by the BLOCK CRS, joint-stock Czech company based in Valasske Mezirici, purchased by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, and airlifted to Afghanistan by the Czech Army. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kabul coordinated the transportation and implementation of the donation. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Afghanistan, Jiri Baloun, who personally contributed to the success of the logistically challenging enterprise, evaluated the benefits of the donation as follows: "Decontamination units are capable of cleaning air in public spaces and disinfecting surfaces, making them versatile not only against the the COVID-19 pandemic, but also in the everyday operation of schools, hospitals, offices, thusly helping the Afghan public."

The ceremonial handover of the decontamination units took place in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Dr. Abdul Qader Qader, Director of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Mohammad Azim Zamerial Kakar, and a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Salim Anwarzai. Deputy Minister Qader thanked, on behalf of the Afghan Government, for the donation helping the public and praised the Czech donation particularly for its versatility. Ambassador Baloun could not personally attend the handover ceremony due to important work assignment in the Czech Republic. He was represented by his Deputy, Stepan Konopasek, Chargé d'affaires ad interim, who handed over the donation on behalf of the Czech Republic.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kabul expresses gratitude to the BLOCK CRS company, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic and the Czech Army for cooperation on the beneficial enterprise.
