Meeting with the Wolesi Jirga Speaker A. M. R. Rahmani

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Afghanistan Jiri Baloun met with the Speaker of the Lower House of the Afghan Parliament (Wolesi Jirga), Alhaj Mir Rahman Rahmani, on 24 February 2021.

The officials spoke about the ongoing peace process, the further development of Afghanistan, and also touched on the issue of reducing the international military presence. Speaker Rahmani praised the continued good Afghan-Czech relations, both now and in the past. Among other things, he emphasized the importance of education and asked about the possibilities of Czech support in this area. He expressed the wish to strengthen cooperation between the Lower Chambers of Parliaments of both states.

Ambassador Baloun briefed Speaker Rahmani on the extent of Czech support for Afghanistan, both bilateral and as an EU and NATO member state. He agreed on the importance of education and the increase in the level of interparliamentary cooperation. He stressed the importance of the unity of Afghan politicians at this crucial time for the future development of the state, and assured Speaker Rahmani that the Czech Republic, as a country and a member of the international community, will continue to support activities leading to peace, democratic governance and social progress achieved in Afghanistan in recent years.
