Construction Business Mission from the State of Sabah to Prague

On September 5-6, 2018, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kuala Lumpur organized a mission of Malaysian construction engineers to Prague. In the course of the business mission, the Embassy in cooperation with the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic held a Czech-Malaysian Business Forum and B2B meeting on September 5, 2018. The program of the mission also included a briefing at the Prague City Hall, a meeting with the members of the Association of Building Entrepreneurs and Road Contractors Association and a site visit to the Blanka tunnel.  The mission followed the opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Malaysian state of Sabah in 2017, where the businessmen came from.

The business delegation consisted of 16 representatives of Sabah companies and members of associations from the construction, transport, engineering, renewable, water and public services sectors. The Czech Republic opened a Honorary Consulate in Kota Kinabalu in 2017 and this mission is a first tangible step in supporting the business interests of Czech companies in the territory.

 

The business matching seminar, attended by Malaysian entrepreneurs and more than 40 representatives of Czech companies, was opened by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Pavel Kaucký, also the Vice-President of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic František Chaloupecký and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Malaysia Rudolf Hykl supported participating companies by their presence.

 

"Represented Malaysian entrepreneurs and their management have entrepreneurial activities and professional engagement across the Sabah state, giving Czech companies the opportunity to establish important business contacts at national or even regional level," said Rudolf Hykl, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Malaysia.

The mission was organized with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and its program also included a briefing at the Prague City Hall on the organization of public transport and urban development planning, a meeting with the members of the Association of Building Entrepreneurs and Road Contractors Association to get acquainted, among others, with the process of obtaining certification in the construction industry, and to establish business contacts and a site visit to the Blanka tunnel. 

Malaysia is the biggest trading partner of the Czech Republic in Southeast Asia with a turnover of almost USD 1.5 billion in 2017. Its structure consists of electrical and computer technologies, transport equipment, food, petrochemical products etc. In the long run, Malaysia achieves high GDP growth rates and belongs among successfully industrializing ASEAN countries.
