Ambassador Assumes Office for Papua New Guinea

Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Malaysia Mr. Rudolf Hykl presented on October the 14th 2014 in Port Moresby to the Governor General of Papua New Guinea Sir Michael Ogio the Letters of Credence of the president of the Czech Republic. In doing so he assumed his position of a non-residential Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Papua New Guinea.
During his visit to PNG, Ambassador Hykl was received by the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rimbink Pato, Minister of Trade and Industry Richard Maru, Minister of Higher Education Malakai Tabar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Papua New Guinea Prof. Albert Mellam, Executive Director of the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce David Conn, Director of the National Museum of Papua New Guirna Andrew Moutu, and representatives of business and diplomatic corps in PNG.
Papua New Guinea is experiencing an economic boom as a result of the launch of a USD 20 bil. liquid natural gas project. The GDP of the country is expected to grow over 20 % in 2015. The leadership of the country is interested in diversification of its ties also with the European countries. Ambassador Hykl discussed the ways and areas how Czech companies and institutions could participate in this process. A cooperation in trade, education and intergovernmental relations were among the issues discussed.
