(This article expired 08.10.2022 / 00:15.)

Ambassador Rudolf Hykl presented on the September 27th, 2016 in Funafuti the letter of credence of the President of the Czech Republic to the Governor General of Tuvalu, Sir Iakoba Italeli, accrediting him as the first non-resident Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Tuvalu since both countries established diplomatic relations in 2005.

During the visit of Tuvalu, Ambassador Rudolf Hykl was received by the Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga, the Deputy Prime Minister Maatia Toafa and he met also with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Taukelina Finikasa and other members of the government.

The discussions focused on the international development cooperation, especially the Agenda 2030, also on the climate change, which Tuvalu views as the major existential threat because of the country´s geographical vulnerability as a low lying island state.

The leaders of Tuvalu expressed their appreciation of the Czech Republic´s contributions to the EU development funds and the Green Climate Fund, from which Tuvalu receives financing for its development. The Czech Republic´s role in maintaining international security as a member of the UN and NATO was also commended.
