Czech President of UN ECOSOC Meets with MFA Secretary General

Ambassador Marie Chatardova paid a visit to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia and met with Dato' Seri Ramlan Bin Ibrahim on the February 13th, 2018. The Czech Republic currently holds the Presidency of the UN Economic and Social Council for one year since July 2017 and the position of the President is executed by the Country´s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York.

Ambassador Marie Chatardova visited Kuala Lumpur as one of the main speakers at the 9th World Urban Forum, which was co-organised by the UN Habitat and Malaysian government on the February 7th to 13th, 2018. At the meeting with the Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Ramlan Bin Ibrahim, both sides exchanged views on the UN development agenda, especially the road towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, and informed each other about the progress of the two respective countries in the process of implementation of their national agendas.

The both sides also expressed their support to the reform package of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Ambassador Chatardova also informed on the state of play of ongoing reform processes within ECOSOC.  

The Czech Republic will organise a Preparatory Meeting of ECOSOC on the March 26-27th, 2018 in Prague, to which Malaysia was cordially invited. The topic of the meeting will be the Czech Presidency priority: “Towards sustainable, resilient and inclusive societies through participation of all”.

Ambassador  Marie Chatardova was accompanied by the Czech Ambassador to Malaysia, Rudolf Hykl, who stressed during the meeting the interest of the Czech Republic to consult with Malaysia also the issues of the multilateral diplomacy, in addition to the bilateral foreign policy consultations, which took place in October 2017 during the visit of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Martin Tlapa, in Kuala Lumpur.
