The Governor of the Eastern Highlands Province, the Honorable Peter Numu, praised during a meeting with Ambassador Rudolf Hykl on the September 15th, 2017 the Czech Republic’s involvement in the construction of a new provincial hospital in Goroka, the capital of the Eastern Highlands province. He expressed gratitude to the Czech Government for its support to the financing of the project, which is implemented by an Austrian company of Vamed. Czech companies participate in the project as contractors.

The original hospital in Goroka was built in 1967 and its current condition does not meet the needs of the city and the province. Governor Peter Numu underlined the social and health aspect of the project, which will serve his province and surrounding areas of this mountainous part of PNG.

Ambassador Rudolf Hykl visited the construction site of the new hospital and met with Czech suppliers working on the project. The project manager, Mr. Premysl Boehm, is a Czech citizen. Another 20 Czechs are currently working in Goroka, the project which should be completed by the middle of 2018. Czech companies provide for the complete interior construction works and installations. The material are supplied almost completely from the Czech Republic.
