First Czech Film Screening in Port Moresby

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kuala Lumpur organized, in cooperation with the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Port Moresby, the 1st Czech Film Presentation in Papua New Guinea. The Oscar winning Czech movie of Kolja by the director Jan Sverak was presented to the invited guests in the Paradise cinema of the Vision City Megamall in the PNG’s capital on the September 14th, 2017.

The Czech film presentation was inaugurated by Ambassador Rudolf Hykl, who introduced film production of Jan and Zdenek Sverak, the Czech Republic, as well as its activities in PNG. Representatives of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of PNG, diplomatic corps, the top management of the National Museum and Gallery of PNG, the faculty of the University of Papua New Guinea and business representatives were among the guests.

The purpose of the film presentation and the cocktail reception, which preceded it, was to highlight the Czech Republic as a perspective partner for collaboration with PNG, especially in the business and trade area. Ambassador Hykl introduced the strong industrial credentials of the Czech Republic, which were further documented by a specially prepared video by the Embassy of the Czech Republic showcasing successful Czech companies, such as Tatra Trucks, Zetor, Linet, Transkon, Era, Skoda Plzen and Aircraft Industries. The Czech Honorary Consul in PNG, Mr. Robert Wong, is the contact person for business facilitation with respect of PNG partners.
