Czech Presence at Langkawi Aerospace and Maritime Exhibition LIMA 2015

The Czech Republic took part in the International Aerospace and Maritime Exhibition LIMA 2015, which was held on 17 – 21 March 2015 in Langkawi. The exhibition is organized every two years since 1991 and is one of the largest aerospace and maritime exhibitions in South East Asia. Ambassador Rudolf Hykl attended the official opening of LIMA 2015 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Abdul Razak.

A Czech aircraft manufacturer of Evektor presented at the show its small aircraft called Sportstar. Evektor signed during the exhibition two memoranda of understanding on the future delivery of its 9 – 14 seater airplane of EV-55 Outback. The Malaysian buyers are Senai Airport Terminal Services and APFT Services, which plan to operate the aircraft on domestic flights. The signing ceremony with the participation of Director Jaroslav Ruzicka, was witnessed by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir, the Chief Minister of Kedah Mukhriz, and Czech Ambassador Hykl. Malaysian investors entered Evektor in 2014 with an aim to strategically participate in the development of the Czech technology company.

At LIMA 2015, a Czech company of the Czech Aviation Centre (CATC) from Prague co-signed MOU on development of the Asia Aerospace City, which is being built close to Kuala Lumpur. The Center is intended to train pilots, flight attendants and technical personnel. CATC will supply training know-how. Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BIS), a Czech software company, was represented at LIMA 2015 by its Australian office. BIS showcased its military simulation system VBS 3, which can be customized for individual needs of defense force branches, such as infantry, navy and air force.

During the exhibition, Ambassador Hykl met with Minister of Defense of Malaysia Hishamuddin, and Minister of Industry and Trade of Malaysia Mustapa. The Ministers were informed about the Czech - Malaysian projects in the aviation sector.
