Exhibition of Czech Castles in George Town

On May 26th, 2016, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Malaysia Rudolf Hykl launched the Exhibition of Czech Castles in George Town, Penang.  The exhibition was organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kuala Lumpur and was prepared by the National Museum of the Czech Republic. The exhibition was on display until June 30th, 2016, at the Star Pitt Street Gallery. After Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown was the second and also the last place in Malaysia where the exhibition is staged.

The Chief Minister of Penang the Rt. Hon. Lim Guan Eng was the guest of honour at the opening of the exhibition. Many other prominent guests from Penang participated at the opening ceremony, among them Mr. Danny Law Heng Kiang Penang State Minister for Tourism Development. The opening speech was delivered by the Ambassador Hykl, followed by the Chief Minister of Penang the Rt. Hon. Lim Guan Eng and the General Manager of the George Town World Heritage Incorporated Dr. Ang Ming Chee. The Chief Minister of Penang appreciated in his address the initiative of the Czech Republic to present herself also in the field of history and culture. The ceremonial opening of the exhibition was attended by over 50 guests.

The exhibition featured over 100 photographs and reproductions of historical drawings of more than 30 most beautiful Czech Castles. The exhibition was accompanied by a video projection of a documentary series “Ten centuries of architecture”, as well as a documentary showcasing UNESCO cultural heritage sites in the Czech Republic and a 3D video of castle architecture.

To increase the impact and attractiveness of the exhibition the Embassy organized a screening of a Czech musical comedy “A Night at Karlstein”, which was set at one of the most beautiful Czech castles Karlstein.

The exhibition of Czech Castles in George Town was accompanied by a presentation of Czech cuisine in The Chamber’s Restaurant on May 27th and 28th, 2016, with a presence of a chef from the Czech Republic.
