As the Second Czech Film Festival had a theme “Fairy Tale Stories from Fairy Tale Country”, some of the best tittles from this genre were shown. Four movies were from the very recent years: Barefoot (2017), Angel of the Lord 2 (2016), The Seven Ravens (2015) and Kooky, while the fifth is a 2017 remastered sci-fi comedy, Adela Has Not Had Supper Yet (1977). The only drama in the selection, but with a sense of comedy as seen from the children's perspective, was Barefoot, the newest film of the renowned director, Jan Svěrák, whose Oscar winning and nominated films were presented in Malaysia last year.

“We were encouraged by a high attendance and impact of the First Czech Film Festival in Malaysia in 2017 and wanted to keep the momentum. As the Czech Republic has a rich tradition in fairy tales, combined with a world renowned reputation in animation and sci-fi cinematography, we brought some of the best movies from the recent years to represent all of the above. The Czech Republic is also known for the abundance of historical architecture, hence the theme of “Fairy Tale Stories from Fairy Tale Country”, said the Ambassador of the Czech Republic H.E. Rudolf Hykl.

The total of 10 complimentary screenings took place at the Golden Screen Cinemas at Pavilion KL and Mid Valley. This unique professional presentation of accomplished Czech cinematography in the largest cinema chain in Malaysia was organized and funded by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kuala Lumpur. It was meant to present the Czech Republic and its cinematography to Malaysian audiences in order to enhance the Czech – Malaysia cultural understanding.

The showcase included also a brand new movie of Barefoot by the Oscar winning Czech director Jan Svěrák.

"We have chosen this film, which takes place in the Czech Republic during the WWII. to highlight the 100 years anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslowakia,” said Ambassador Rudolf Hykl.
