Technical University of Liberec in Academic and Research Collaboration with Malaysian Partners

The top management of the Technical University of Liberec visited Kuala Lumpur on August 14-15, 2017. The rector of the university, Prof. Zdenek Kus, signed the Memorandum of understanding with the Universiti Teknologi MARA. Areas of possible future bilateral cooperation were also discussed with NanoMalaysia, a nanotechnology commercialisation agency of the Malaysian government.

 

The delegation of the Technical University of Liberec (TUL), led by the Rector of the university Prof. Zdenek Kus, who was accompanied by the Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Sona Jandova and the Vice-Rector Prof. Pavel Nemecek, visited Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Shah Alam on August 14, 2017 in order to sign the Memorandum of understanding on cooperation, promotion of academic and scientific thought and personnel exchange between the two universities. On behalf of the UiTM, the Memorandum was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Emeritus Dato´ Dr Hassan Said, the ceremony was held in the presence of H.E. Rudolf Hykl, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Malaysia.

The cooperation between the two universities is a result of the Czech rectors mission to Kuala Lumpur in May 2015, organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with the Czech Rectors Conference.

The UiTM is the largest university in Malaysia with the total number of 160 thousand students. The discussion, which preceded the signing of the Memorandum, indicated the mutual interest in the cooperation mainly in the field of mechatronics and robotics, textile technologies etc.

The delegation also met with the management of NanoMalaysia – the governmental agency comprising various nanotechnology research institutions with the aim to help of assisting them with the commercialisation and industrialization of their R&D. The Malaysian side was led by the CEO of the NanoMalaysia agency, Dr. Rezal Khairi Ahmad, other representatives from the major Malaysian research universities, innovation centres and laboratories were also present.

The Technical University of Liberec is a leading institution, both in the European and international context, in nanotechnology R&D. The Embassy initiated this meeting in order to assist the establishing of substantive collaboration with Malaysian partners in the nanotechnology sector. Potential common projects and technology transfers in automotive, textile and medical industries were discussed.

The Technical University of Liberec has been a member of ASEA UNINET since 2016. ASEA UNINET is a Euro-Asian network of universities comprising more than 80 members, and as such it facilitates cooperation between the regions. In Malaysia, the TUL has established, for example, a cooperation with the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang.
