10th Anniversary of the Founding of the Department of the West Slavic Languages

On May 14, 2015, the Jubilee in the occasion of 10th anniversary of the founding of the Department of the West Slavic languages took place in the area of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana. However, the study of the Czech language commenced in the academic year of 2004/2005 when the Department of the West Slavic Languages was also founded on the basis of significant support from the Embassy of the Czech Reublic in Ljubljana. The symposium was opened by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana Prof. Dr. Martin Germ who in his speech thanked to all who contributed to both possibility and quality of the study of West Slavic Languages in Ljubljana. Festive speeches of the Ambassadors of the Czech Republic,  Poland and Slovakia followed. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Slovenia H.E. PhDr. Věra Zemanová summarized in her speech present history of mutual Czech Slovenian relations and emphasized the developing cooperation not only in the field of education and culture but also in the level of politics and economics. The Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports was represented by the Director of the Department of International Relations Mr. Ladislav Bánovec who gave a present to the leadership of the Department of the West Slavic Languages in the form of a voucher amounting 20 000,- CZK to purchase books for Slovenian students of Czech studies.
