Handing over the credentials of the Ambassador Juraj Chmiel to the President Borut Pahor

On 19th June 2019 the Ambassador Juraj Chmiel handed over the credentials to the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor and officially assumed the office of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador in Slovenia. The ceremonial act took place in the Presidential palace in Ljubljana. On the same day the Ambassador Chmiel also handed over the copy of his credentials to the Director of the Diplomatic Protocol of the MFA Nataša Prah.

Following the ceremony both representatives had a brief conversation about the Czech and Slovenian relations. The President Pahor emphasized his positive attitude towards the Czech Republic and expressed his thanks to the President Miloš Zeman for having appointed a new ambassador. The Ambassador Chmiel highlighted the common interests of both states and pointed out the possibilities of cooperation with the Visegrad Group and the Austerlitz Format. He valued the increasing exchange of goods between the countries and remembered the shared history, including the very good cultural cooperation. He also mentioned the interest in further deepening the regional cooperation.

Talking about the migration the President Pahor appreciated the police and military aid provided by the Czech Republic to Slovenia in the years 2015 and 2016 when the Europe´s migration crisis was at its peak.
