Centennial Celebrations of the Czech and Slovak Statehood in Ljubljana

On October, 17 2018 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Czech and Slovak statehood and the Independent Czechoslovak State Day the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana hosted a festive reception with a concert of classical music and the exhibition called “Establishment of Czechoslovakia”. The event was held in cooperation with the Embassy of Slovakia.

The opening speeches of the 100th anniversary of the Czech and Slovak statehood were delivered by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, H. E. Věra Zemanová, and the Ambassador of Slovakia, H. E. Eva Ponomarenková, in the hall of the Grand Hotel Union designed in Art Nouveau style and located in the very centre of Ljubljana.

The gala reception was preceded by the concert of Len ART Quartet from Košice. Its performance featuring pieces by Antonín Dvořák, Jozef Praprocký and Ilja Zeljenka was widely acclaimed by the audience. The significant historical milestone of the centennial anniversary was further accompanied by the exposition named “Establishment of Czechoslovakia”, which commemorated the creation of the Czechoslovak state and the era of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Eleven exhibition panels depicted the greatest figures and moments of this period.

The celebrations of the Czech and Slovak statehood provided a unique opportunity to meet notable people. The reception was attended by Alojz Kovšca, the President of the National Council of Slovenia, Uršula Zore Tavčar, the Secretary General of the National Council, Peter Česnik, the Minister for the Slovenian people abroad, Vlasta Nussdorfer, the Human Rights Ombudsman, and other important personalities from the world of diplomacy, business, culture or education as well as the Czech citizens in Slovenia. Tereza Matějková, the Head of Trade Fairs in Czech Tourism, also accepted the invitation and introduced the tourism possibilities in the Czech Republic. The Slovenian guests highly appreciated that the celebrations were organised in cooperation of the Czech Embassy and the Slovak Embassy in Slovenia.

The solemn celebrations of 100th anniversary of the Czech and Slovak statehood were attended roughly by 300 guests. The celebrations took place thanks to the financial support of sponsors: Radenska, d.o.o. (Kofola group), Litostroj Power (Energo Pro) and Krka, d.d.
