Czech Footprints at NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence

On 16 May 2023, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana opened the exhibition named Czech Footprints in Slovenia at the NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence.  The Mountain Warfare Training Centre has been in Slovenia for 7 years and is based in Poljče, Slovenia.

A chargé d'affaires of the Czech Republic to Slovenia, Mr. Pavel Sladký, opened the exhibition on 16 May 2023. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of NATO at the present time and expressed his support for Ukraine. He explained the colours of the Czech national flag and why these colours were used and what they mean. At the end of his speech, he recalled the ties between the Czech and Slovenian peoples and reminded their long history together. The wide range of connections between the Czechs and Slovenians is illustrated in this 22-panel exhibition. The exhibition presents personalities of Czech origin who have successfully contributed to the building of Slovenian national identity, culture, education, infrastructure and, last but not least, the sports movement. The vast majority of them have even found a new home and settled here.

On 30 June 2023, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Slovenia Mr. Juraj Chmiel visited the exhibition and met with the Director of the Centre, Colonel Borut Flajšman, and the first Czech representative to NATO MWCOE, Lieutenant Colonel Petr Kříž.

We recommend watching the video for the exhibition „Czech traces in Ljubljana“,  Czech traces left by Czech architects' prepared by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana.
