Handover of the LIDICE Prize 2019 to the children from Ankaran elementary school ”dr. Aleš Bebler – Primož”

The Ambassador Juraj Chmiel handed over the prizes to the children from the Ankaran elementary school  ”dr. Aleš Bebler – Primož” as part of the 47th International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts LIDICE 2019. The ceremony took place on November 29, 2019 at the elementary school “dr. Aleš Bebler-Primož” in Ankaran in the presence of the representative of the Municipality of Koper.
 

The personal visit of the Ambassador, accompanied by Veronika Benešová, the cultural attaché, was highly appreciated as he gave the pupils, in addition to the awards, also the small gifts reminding the Czech Republic and Czech culture.

Part of the ceremony was a cultural program prepared by the pupils of the elementary school. In his speech, the Ambassador Chmiel appreciated the interest of the teachers and their pupils in the renowned competition LIDICE, which commemorates child victims of the Second World War in the village of Lidice. He also invited them to participate in next year edition whose main theme will be “Landscape”.

The Ambassador Chmiel will hand over the prizes to other awarded schools in Slovenia one by one as a part of his personal visits. Slovenian schools are among the regular and increasingly successful participants in this competition. In the 47th edition of the competition the Slovenian schools and their pupils received the total of 31 awards and Slovenia thus became the sixth most successful country out of 70 contesting countries.
