Invitation to the lecture -The Work of Czech Pupils of Jože Plečnik within the Limits of Neoclassicism


The Department of Slavonic Studies of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana invites you to a lecture by Dr. Pavel Panoch from the Faculty of Arts, University of Pardubice (Czech Republic), which will take place on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 6 pm at the City Museum of Ljubljana (Mestni muzej Ljubljana). The lecture will focus on the work of the Czech pupils of Jože Plečnik from the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague, where the Slovenian architect worked as a teacher for ten years (1911-1921).

 

Lecture will be present projects and realisations of architects Jindřich Merganec, Karel Řepa (who was the only Czech student to follow his teacher to Ljubljana, where he completed his studies), Alois Mezera, František Lýdia Gahura and Karel Štipl in which Plečnik's influence can be traced and which are characterised by variations between traditionalism and new classicism.

Art historian Pavel Panoch has been involved in the protection of cultural heritage and material monuments for many years. Since 2006, he has been working at the Institute of History at the Faculty of Arts, University of Pardubice (Czech Republic), where he lectures mainly on the history of art and architecture. His research focuses on modern architecture and baroque art.
