The Embassy donated books to the University of Ljubljana to support Czech studies

The Czech Embassy supports the study of Czech language and literature at the University of Ljubljana by purchasing and donating Czech books. The Czech Embassy is very pleased that could contribute to the further development of Czech studies, which has a long tradition in Slovenia. The Czech language lectureship was established among the first (1922) after the founding of the University of Ljubljana (1919), and study of Czech language was taught as a combined course.

The Embassy has been traditionally supporting the development of Czech studies in Slovenia by annually organizing a number of events dedicated to the teaching of Czech language and promoting Czech literature. Popular formats include guest appearances by Czech writers, film cycles and ad hoc lectures by Ambassador J. Chmiel and Deputy Ambassador J. Beneš on Czech history and other related topics.

In the autumn of 2020, the Embassy, in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, organized a successful meeting between Minister T. Petříček and students of Czech language and literature and Slovenian translators of Czech literature. On this occasion, Minister Petříček personally met with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Roman Kuhar, and expressed interest in organizing joint celebrations of the 100th anniversary of teaching of Czech language in Slovenia.
